That’s a great question and I wish I had a better answer than what I’m about to give. How do you maintain that inspiration to strive towards a happier life and follow the Buddha’s teachings? Well, it starts with dedication. Dedicate yourself and a part of your day to meditation. Don’t make it a chore but even if it is it’s still better than nothing. It’s suggested to sit an hour a day but you can work your way up to that if it’s to hard at first. It may take awhile until you manage to get into a rhythm but once you do you should observe a change in your mood.
Meditation is by far the most important thing to do here. Following the five precepts would also be advisable as well as contemplating the four noble truths and walking the path. However, meditation is part of the path. It’s the most important part of the path. Without mindfulness how are you to see the ways in which you walk away from the path?
So, I would say to just set a time to meditate each day. If this still doesn’t work then find someone who will meditate with you and set a time with them. Finding a sangha may also be the way to go.
Namaste.
